Bridging The Gap CPD

Lifespan Structures are offering a CPD to Clients and Designers of bridges in the use of FRP Composites in construction of footbridges. This CPD sets out to discuss the various forms of footbridge construction in the UK and show how the use of an FRP composite structure bridges the gap between the benefits in whole life costing and capital cost that exists with many traditional solutions. When selecting any footbridge, consideration needs to be given to factors such as; capital cost, aesthetics, speed and ease of installation, maintenance intervention, anticipated service life, whole life costs and replacement costs. The use of case studies is used to demonstrate how an FRP footbridge solution compares to other forms of construction. Utilisation of a standardised bridge form has allowed Lifespan Structures to develop a footbridge specifically designed to provide a cost effective, low maintenance, durable, composite solution for bridges, with up to 20m span and in a variety of widths suitable for footbridges. Lifespan FRP Bridge 18 Months Old

The FRP Bridge at Sedlescombe was recently inspected and was found to still looking great! The structure has regular foot traffic as people walk to the recreation area from the village.  The bridge was aesthetically designed to blend in with its surrounding environment and it now looks very much part of the landscape. Designed to Highways England Standard BD90/05 and constructed from FRP using resin infused techniques the bridge was installed by client West Sussex County Council.
