- 2 x footbridges measuring 11m x 1.5m
The Client had recently purchased additional land to extend an existing park and wanted two footbridges across a small stream to gain access to the new land. Lifespan Structures recommended an FRP composite bridge supported on screw piles with a timber parapet to compliment the environmental location.
The Client commissioned Lifespan to undertake a topographical survey, and borehole survey for the proposed locations. Lifespan then provided an Approval in Principle (AIP) for the Client and proceeded to design the two bridges followed by manufacture and delivery to site ready for installation.
Both bridges were 11m long and 1.5m wide with 1.2m high timber parapets bolted to the side flanges of the moulded FRP composite deck. The bridges were supported on a pair of screw piles with a galvanised steel cross beam at each abutment which allows the bridges to be easily moved or removed at any time in the future without detriment to the environment.
Each bridge deck was moulded in one piece and delivered to site complete with surfacing and ready for the parapet to be attached. The service life is 100 years with minimal maintenance required.
The weight of each deck was 2500Kg so the bridges could be easily lifted into place using a lorry mounted hiab. This significantly reduces installation costs and increases the safety for the site personnel. Both bridges were installed in one day by the contractor.
